Toilet training kittens is easily done. There are a few exceptions. There are cats who just won't, because they don't want to. Cats are relatively easy to toilet train - most of the time.

However, there is always the exception to the rule, the little kitty rebel who refuses to conform to the structure of society, albeit it is a severely limited society consisting of you, the rest of the family, other pets and the house that you share with your cat.

A battle of stubbornness with your cat is possible to win, but it takes time and work.

There is a positive side to a stubborn cat. Cats are naturally driven to eliminate in the same area all the time. So, as a smart cat owner you will be able to use this fact to make them litter box free, and toilet trained. That's right no more litter box cleaning, or smell. This also makes it so your cat is less likely to venture elsewhere.

Cats can be very creative. They may turn your couch into a litter box, your dirty laundry or even your basket of clean laundry. Once that bad habit starts it is very difficult to undo it and retrain the cat to go in his or her own litter box, but with a cat that is toilet trained, you have very little risk of this backsliding happening.

It is recommended that you toilet train your cat when it is a kitten, however, it is very possible to train an adult cat. You start by putting kitty in a kennel while sleeping at night, and right when they are able to leave the kennel in the morning, take them directly to the litter box, and place them in it.

Then, do this every time they eat a meal, nap, or you can see them sniffing for a place to do their business.

After your cat uses the litter box even one time, they are drawn to the idea of using it again. This is because they are drawn to the scent. You must start with the litter box training first, then you are able to move to toilet training. Now begin propping up the litter box two inches a day, until it is the same height as the toilet.

You will also have to be trained as well because from now on you will need to keep the toilet lid up and the toilet seat down as well as leaving the door open. This way the cat grows accustomed to maneuvering around the open toilet. By the time the litter box has been raised to the level of the toilet, the cat is probably jumping onto the toilet to access the litter box. How quickly you go through this stage and get through toilet training kittens is highly dependent upon the cat.

Move the litter box over the toilet for a few days until the cat gets used to this then remove the litter box altogether. Some cats go straight to the toilet from there, but you may need to add a stage.

Use a metal mixing bowl with a little litter and place it under the toilet seat. As the cat uses the "bowl" keep an eye on her. Begin placing her feet in the proper places (outside of the bowl and on the seat area) and praise her when she does it properly. Soon they will be using the toilet on their own.

Being the owner of a cat can be a very rewarding experience and many cat owners have great, loving relationships with their cats. Others don’t have it so easy. Cats are independent and stubborn creatures and often aren’t willing to comply with the rules of the house, and this can cause many problems between the cat and his owner. Training a cat doesn’t have to be a difficult task and if successful, will give you the loving relationship you wish to have with your cat.

To train your cat successfully, there are several things to keep in mind to get optimal results. First, the earlier you can start training a cat the better. Kittens will pick up on the learned behaviors faster than adult cats, although training an adult cat is not impossible. Whether you’re getting a kitten or an adult cat, the sooner you start training your cat, the better. When training a cat, always remember to use positive reinforcements for good behaviors, rather than punishing them for being naughty.

Whether you are training a cat to use the litter box, to not scratch the furniture, or to do tricks such as playing fetch, you must be consistent with the training techniques you choose. Whatever method you choose for training your cat, be sure to stick to it. If you are constantly changing your techniques or aren’t consistent with the way you react or reward your cat for a specific behavior, your cat won’t know what to expect from you. This will only confuse your cat and they probably won’t behave the way you want them to.

While training your cat, it’s important to remember that if your cat becomes bored, they are more likely to get into something they aren’t supposed to be in. You should make sure you keep plenty of kitty toys around the house that they can easily access when they want to play. This will help to avoid them playing with the things around the house that you don’t want them playing with, such as your pictures or plants.

Training a cat can be a difficult, but very rewarding experience. It will allow the cat and owner to bond and build a better, more loving relationship. When you don’t have the stress and frustration of a misbehaving cat, you can focus more on loving them and giving them the affection they want, and in return they will also show you the affection you want from them.
