House Training Cats
The most difficult part of solving litter box avoidance problems is identifying the cause. Unfortunately, cats are extremely sensitive to change - and if your cat has been regularly using the litter box and then suddenly stopped, something has changed whether you are aware of it or not.
So the goal is to figure out what's changed.
Here are a couple of things to think about:
The most important thing to consider when you need to figure out what has caused a house soiling problem is: WHEN did the problem start?
2nd most important: Are you certain it's not a health issue such as an Urinary Tract Infection? (The #1 symptom of an UTI is litter box avoidance)
Other questions to consider that will help you figure out the cause:
Did anything at all change near the time when the behavior started? (Try to think of everything, no matter how unimportant it seems)
Have you moved to a new home recently?
Did you recently introduce a new cat/dog/ferret/roommate into your house (or apartment)?
Have any of the litter boxes been moved? (Maybe he or she tends to regularly use one certain box and that particular one has been moved)
Did you rearrange or add any new furniture to your house?
Are you 100% sure this cat is the one not using the box?
Are any of your cats not getting along?
Inter-cat disagreements are actually much harder to spot than most owners realize. Just because they aren't fighting doesn't mean they're getting along. One of your cat's may actually be "silently" intimidating one of the others, but you don't know how to read the signs so you aren't aware of it.
If you're sure you know which cat isn't using the litter box, and you know which litter box that cat usually uses, keep an eye out to see if any of your other cats are spending extra time "hanging out" close to that box.
If you have any covered litter boxes, pay special notice to any cats that have a tendency to sit on top of the litter box.
One surefire method of retraining a stubborn cat is to keep the cat in a nearly empty room for a day or two, providing only a few toys, a scratching post, water, a bed and a litter box.
Use this technique to house train your cat and don't allow free access to the rest of the house until the cat is completely retrained and no longer eliminates outside of the litter box.
Some people think it's crazy when they realize just how many things can upset a cat's bathroom habits. What they don't realize is that elimination is actually a very complex and fragile part of a cat's life, and it can be easily disrupted.

I have 2 cats that I have to re-home due to New apartment landlords and financial issues. If anyone fosters, or is willing to help find them a good home, please help. The first one we call “moo moo” Because her fur pattern looks the same as a cow’s. She’s very playful and active, medium haired, maybe 6 months old? The Second one Is Sabby, Long black hair, very very affectionate, needs lots of attention, would be great as a only cat. She currently has a skin rash of some sort.. so she’s missing fur on her legs, we’ve been bathing her and it seems to be clearing up. We haven’t been able to take her to the vet so I’m hoping to find someone who can. Please ask around if you know anyone who can help, or if you know anywhere I can take Sabby. when they are pooping do u see them while they are doing this? i thought my cats were purposely pooping next to the litter box but it just so happens that they were inside the whole time and their butts were sticking out and the poop just happened to land on the floor lol. occasionally cats will poop and urinate on the floor next to the litter box bcuz its too dirty for them. if u feel the litter box is too small for them u should get them a bigger one so their butts dont hang out

You can clean it every day. If you don't want to do that (who does?) you can sprinkle baking soda in it. That absorbs some of the pee smell which IMO is the worst part. If you can find it (they have it at Target and at PetSmart) get something called Feline Pine. It's a cat litter made out of pine shavings. You get no pee smell and only get the poo smell if you go forever without cleaning it. Might take a while to get your cat used to it, but it's great!
save some $$$ and buy the automatic littermaid with canopy and it works well..for me it does i have 3 cats in my apt. and 2 in my mother house…or buy some wood and make a box with an entry that can fit the litterbox and you will not see any trail of litter in the floor..hopes that helps.

How do you get them to stay in the litterbox, when they look at you like you’re crazy.
We have a pair of loving ferrets that are in need of a good home. One is a male (panda print) and the other is a female (sable). They are descented and spayed/neutered. They come with a cage and all their accessories. The accessories include: nail trimmers, a few toys, litter boxes, shampoo, treats, food, litter, and a brush. We really love them and would not be giving them up, but unfortunately we do not have the time to properly care for them. We are asking for a rehoming fee of $200 for everything.

if it is an adult cat that never used a litterbox before it might be a slightly continuos issue, but not always……here is an idea get a litter pan and fill it with a very generous amount of litter about 3 inches deep….show her the litter box and place her in it even and mover her paw back and forth a little in the litter then let her alone…if she goes outside of the box pick it up and place it inside the litter box. also if the cat has a favorite spot to use as a toilette put the litter box there…it can always be moved later after she starts to use it.
The person above got it right. Seven stories is about the optimal height for a cat to fall. Below that it won't have the time to turn and land on its feet, above that it will get injuries from not being able to dampen the impact (typically, damage to the chin)
There are many pre-fab cat houses on the market but they are expensive & may not fit your tastes. Cat house plans for the do-it-yourself crowd are available from a few sources. If you want to have your cat house built, or build it yourself, you can start with these ideas and instructions.
Well I know that with my dog, If it is ever in pain it will lay down on the couch and stay there and if you try to touch her she'll be very irritated. And If your irritate whatever is hurting she'll show her teeth.
As far as the food everyone has different opinions on it I don't see any problem with it if they also get some hard, my cats love both. My sister was told by her vet that feeding a cat that doesn't drink enough water wet food will help get them some of the water they need. It helps keep them from getting bladder problems.
As far as the litter box goes it needs to be cleaned more and try different litters to find one to help with the smell. We even wash out the box so often and let bleach sit in it for a bit to keep it in check.

We have stray cats too I don't know if this would work for you but it works for us. First we put lots of old paper and cardboard on the floor. Then we had old blankets and put them in there also we took and put a heating pad on low and put it in one of the layers of blanket. The cats seem to stay warm and happy. But I would not turn it up higher than low and make sure it is in a good extension cord that is protected from the snow and rain. Live in Ohio and it gets cold here but have used this for several years with no complaints and I don't think it cost that much for their comfort. Good luck on your answers.
